Hmmmm are there any computer geniuses that can tell me if I can watch the Freeview channels using a PCI TV Turner? Well specifically this one...

and Can I just get a satellite dish and plug it straight into this card? i.e no need for another set top box so to speak?

No. Well not yet anyway. That card is a terrestrial digital card.

Freeview is DVB-S only at the moment (satellite). They will probably go DVB-T (terrestrial) sometime next year (I am unsure of specifics though and as to weather the Leadtek card will work.

I bought a couple of Hauppage DVB-S Cards a while ago ready to go into my media server at some stage. They are not cheap though.

I bought a Coship DVB-S set-top box in the mean time... as the completion of the media server is another of those projects...

The previous owners of my house nicely left me a sky dish to plug it in to.

Hmm yeah the DVB-T is coming next year I think...

I just wanted a TV Card for my system, and decided that if I get the analogue TV Card I'll only get a few year out of it whereas if I get the little more expensive one I can continue to use it... Touch wood my system lasts that long

Right so I can get the above card for about $100 which can do both analogue as well as DVB-t So looks like I'll be getting one of those or if someone has a better card that they have experience with at similar price let me know

Just because it does "DVB-T", it is not a given that it will work with freeview next year, it likely will, but here are standards, and there are... well you know.

Be sure to check with someone who knows more like maybe freeviewshop.co.nz or satlinknz.co.nz etc

I'd be tempted just to buy an analogue card for about $50 (or possibly less - even 2nd hand on trademe) and save the rest until you know exactly what is happening with freeview next year. Also, having 2 cards means you can record on one... whilst watching the other...

Yeah I think I might take the plunge tomorrow to get the card... I could always sell it on trademe if it doesn't work out in a few years cause at the moment I could still use it to watch analogue

I'll keep you posted... I phoned Dick Smiths and they say it should be OK as the TV DVB-T cards are pretty generic... and my research shows that the card I have chosen is quite good...

I'll give it a shot...

Hmmm further chats with the computer shop guy lead me to believe he didn't know anything and as a result I settled for a $60 TV card instead... But I have to go back again cause the remote doesn't want to work... I got:

LeadTek WinFast TV2000 XP RM

The other turns out you cannot watch analogue... only digital, I wanted one that would do both so I can switch over later on...

HAHAHAHA I went in today to have them look at my computer and they said they would change the card... They changed it and the remote works first time.... I come home plug everything back in... and remote doesn't work... ARGH!!!!

So I don't know it could have something to do with the card itself... I'll keep digging...

You mean the remote worked in their PC, but not yours?

Possible issues:
- Driver. Did you use the one on the supplied disk, or did it just work? Maybe try the disk one (even if older version), or a newer driver from the internet (manuf website)
- IR interference, could it be that interference is occurring? Try the remote right up to the receiver with yout hand shielding the whole thing.
- not sure if they are standard IR drivers or how the drivers work, and I don't know much about Windows, but maybe there could be an interrupt conflict? Try turning some stuff off in the BIOS such as the Infrared port on the Motherboard (if there is one), or serial ports.

I'd take the PC to them and get them to make it work. Or get another card from them.

Yeah I did bring my whole PC to them... they got it working on the 1st time on my machine... I bring it back plug everything back in and Nada...

I tried putting the remote all the way next to the receiver and nothing... I'll keep trying
