Hi all,
We have constant Japanese helpers as part of a tourism venture we own.
The current one has contacts in Japan who work for Mazda and Honda. If you need anything interpreted/ including web sites, just email me and get it sent to us.
There is no cost, but it may take a day or two to complete. She can also tell you about your cars history in Japan, if she knows the first owners name/phone from the service manual. She rang the first/only owner of a car of ours and we got a full rundown on its use, repairs, mileage when sold (before being wound)and we found he got less than $2000 NZ for it, yet it arrived in NZ at $11500. Next time I'll fly over with a helper and buy my own, since there were pages of limited edition NB MX5's from $2-5000 NZ. Must check compliance rules first though.

Hi Warwick, basically anything pre 1996 cannot be bought in. Check LTSA web
site for chassis numbers that will comply. Then add about $2,000 to the
purchase price to cover shipping and compliance costs.

Thanks for that Jeff. Naoko has just sent her brother, a bit of a 'drift racer' in Japan, down to the book store. He'll come back with a price in yen this afternoon, plus postage and I'll get him to send me a regular copy.I'll pay him through his company by Visa.
+ If anyone else wants one let me know and I'll tell you when they arrive, usually 7 days to us from Tokyo.Cost is only magazine cost, plus shared airmail.
Lots of roadsters to look at, 97-99 models sell at about $9000 with some weird and wacky colour schemes and fitouts on display- thousands spent on interiors I should think.
Yellow seems very popular there

The mag 'Air roadster' seems to be the one with all kinds of MX5 - racers,
touring and one class circuit racers. The cost is $15 NZ, and Im happy to
pass them on to you after I've drooled - since the text will be in
Japanese/English mixture, I'll need our interpreter.
There were also 2 others about MX5's on the magazine Japan site and Naoko is
trying to see what they cover.
I also found dealers that only sell MX5's with rows of cars. Much more
colourful than the usual silver/grey cars we seem to import into NZ.

The site http://list1.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/20 ... -leaf.html
has 68 MX'5 cars for auction. The "H' refers to year- we are now H16, so H7
was 9 years ago or 1996. The big number eg. 800000 is the yen price so
divide by 74 to convert to dollars.

I've got a copy of "Air Roadster" I got sent and wow what a great mag, bugger
all English but wow what awesome photo's. Japanese magazines can really put
the USA/UK ones to shame in the photo and detail department. I also have many
Jest Ski ones from Japan too and it's the same deal. High quality and great
detail and information too.
I would be keen to get a subscription, if possible maybe we can do a bulk
subscription through the club and the freight (the expensive bit) will be much
better.
off topic; Warwick, as most of my friends will tell you, I'm quite a
Japan-phile, so if it's not rude can I ask about your Tourism business, I meet
many Japanese visiting our fine shores and may be able to guide (no pun
intended) some your way.

Gazza

That's a great link Warwick. Did you see the M1002 going for 2.8 million
yen ($37k!!!) and the white one with the whole rear end blended in to
one piece (bumper to body) with a different shaped boot lid. The best
one would have to be the light blue car with the Pit crew racing body
kit that makes it look like a 70's Italian sportscar and come complete
with figurines of the four Beatles stuck to the centre console.

Hi Matt, cosidering the original; sale price was 3.4m yen and I would guess
the 2.8m auction price is the start price, thats not a bad investment.
There were only 300 of the M2 1001 produced and the demand was so great they
were sold by a lottery system. Would be a great car to own if original, but
not at that price and can't bring in anyway.
