I tried listening for it the other night but could only hear the relay clicking on and off, fuel line was probably still pressurised so the pump didnt need to turn on.

My fuel pump comes on just with ignition..but thats because of the megasquirt now i think.

SOLVED!

Seeing as the car wasnt going anywhere, i decided to do a bit of other work on it.
I pulled the ECU to give the ecu bracket some paint so pulled the covers off and discovered corrosion on the 1A/1B/1C pins on the ecu plug where they join the board so cleaned it up and resoldered the connections and hey presto. car is back to life. Fuel pump still doesnt run in acc like it did, but everything seems to be ok...oh well off to whangamata this weekend!
