Finally after wearing out the original equipment 205/45 x17 Michelins, I have now replaced them with 215/45 x17 Toyo C1S. These are the latest unidirectional tyres from Toyo. The reason for going 215 is 1, they fit, 2, a slightly higher sidewall which doesn't thump on potholes etc, 3, it means the speedo is more accurate. Although I have only done about 50km on them, I can already tell that they are a huge improvement on the Michelins. The turn in is more positive, I can accelerate hard from standstill without wheelspin and cornering at high speed is more assured. i can't wait to try them in the wet (the Michelins were diabolical in the wet ) and also on the track (Taupo driver training). I will get to try them out on our club run on sunday which is on some great MX5 roads in the Waikato.
They are also around half the price of the Michelins

The Michelins on my NC are near replacement time too. Interesting comments
on the Toyos. My speedo is spot on according to my GPS so would like to stay
with the OEM size. What I would like though is a reduction in road noise.
How do the Toyos compare for noise? Anyone else replaced their tyres and
with what? Being much cheaper than the Michelins is also attractive!
Grant.

I should also have mentioned that I have had Toyos on my previous MX5s.
I had ToyoT1S on 17 inch rims on mt yellow 94NA, Toyo TiR on 17 inch rims on my yellow 2001 NB.
The T1S were very good, the T1R an improvement and it already seems the C1s another step up.
No, I don't work for Toyo, I just find their product works very well on MX5s at a price I don't mind paying
