Scan Tools

Post by Keith Jones » Fri Jun 26, 2015 11:44 am

Can anyone recommend a good (but not too expensive) scan tool?

I want one for the MX5 and Legacy, but most of the US units - Autel, Innova - are not guaranteed to work on Japanese vehicles.

Hi Keith- the latest Supercheap catalogue shows a couple of scanners in the name of Actron...might be worth checking out!?

Thanks Gary. $200 was a bit more than I hoping to spend, but I do have a birthday coming up soon :D

Not sure exactly what you are looking to do with it, but I have one of these
http://www.dx.com/p/super-mini-elm327-b ... lue-142679

No good for my early ODB1 MX5, but have used it for my commodore.

Bluetooth... connect to the Android 'Torque' App (which is just a few bucks also for the pro version)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rque&hl=en

For sub $25, this combo gives all the ODB codes and has plenty of other features, such as live dash boards/displays, 0-100 calcs, G force, economy graphing etc.

I have looked at the Torque app. Looks like a very cost effective way to go.
However, on the Torque Forum there are pages and pages of posts from people who can't get it to work on their Jap vehicles.

i use Torque on a lot of Japanese cars.

I find it generally works best on 05ish and newer cars
