N.I Best Driving Road
Hi guys, thinking of taking the mx5 for a 3 days road trip. I am from Auckland and has been to almost all cities in NZ. Please suggest where can I take the car to a wonderful spring road trip- Will have a tent and a SLR camera coming with me as well. Cheers

Best driving Roads NI
Okay,
I copied this a few months back from a discussion on the old forum. Haven't as yet had the opportunity to travel the suggested route but it sounds good - see what you think...
Suggested Runs / Holiday Driving:
TARANAKI AREA:
Stratford then Whangamonona (although still has a little gravel) road is a good honk
Wanganui then ParaParas; turn off at Kakatahi onto Fields Track also recommended
Maybe go down via one & return on the other?
The roads up the mountain are great too
And yeah I remember a very twisty road that cuts through a park area on the north west side of the mountain; dunno what it's called though sorry

“And yeah I remember a very twisty road that cuts through a park area on the
north west side of the mountain; dunno what it's called though sorry" - Is
it Carrington Road which is also used in the Taranaki Tarmac Rally ? Really
tight and twisty for about 12km's
Yes it is Carrington Road, and it extends around much of Mt Taranaki.,
passing the world class Pukeiti Rhododendron Trust, acres of rhododendrons
planted amidst native bush.
The road is a brilliant drive. Another good drive is out on the Junction
Road from New Plymouth, through Inglewood, and out to Tarata saddle, thence
to Tarata, then left out to the coast down the Otaroa Road, through a
hsitoric road tunnel, back to Highway three near Waitara.
Actually Taranaki has literally hundreds of good drives, because it was well
serviced for roads due to the dairy industry from very early times.

hmm lets see...
Auckland to coromandel via miranda. around the coromandel then down to Tauranga and then through towards matata via the old coach road, then turn down the Manawahae road towards the Rotorua lakes and on to Rotorua. then accross to mangakino and whakamaru via the ohakuri lake road and through to the king country, then down to taranaki and back to the coast and back up the west coast via raglan etc...thats a good trip i reckon.

Glenn, that pretty much sums up some of the best zoom-zoom roads. I might have to do that drive come summerSLYDIT wrote:hmm lets see...

My favourite weekend trip is Tauranga-Coromandel-Whitianga-Tairua-Whangamata-Tauranga. And if you're really keen you can do that in a day
