I too am looking at dropping a GTX engine into mine which is currently a turbd 1.6. As there aren't that many around Wellington I would be more than happy to show you my work in progress and help with some advise to help you avoid slowing the build down!

whats the point in changing to a familia engine? the stock mx 5 engine is perfectly capable wwith good tuning. mines been running 200WHP for nine years and i havent touched a thing inside it.

I agree. For what they are, the mx5 engines are almost bulletproof and have a track record of reliability.

sorted my waste gate angle, pics soon. bov on its way should start putting it all together soon.

i can see the reason for going to the 1.8l especially if you want 250hp+ with more torque

Higher engine capacity - stroker kit - at the moment I am running a safe-ish 220 when everything is going sweet but with power goals north of 400BHP I think it is the easiesy way to achieve this.

No need to stroke the 1800 BP engine to achieve 400HP more so if your aiming for 800HP...as for the GTX head it flow worse than the factory MX5 NA8 head, as for the block their identical unless your using a GTR Block?

'North of 400hp"

I spoke to an engine builder who told me the GTX motor had a much stronger bottom end as well as much better cams being that they were developed for FI from the start.. Although saying that you are right about the 1.8 being just as good an option except they seem to command a higher price and half of the fun will be making some sort of hybrid BPT/NA8 engine...

Before I ever personally get to that stage it will be more than likely I will have put another 1.6 litre engine is because as has previously been said they can handle a fair bit once you are set up correctly with external oil cooler etc...

I have had my T25 holding 15PSI without having an engine problem YET and that is standard internals...

These are just so much fun to work on!

still no point in a familia engine. start your build with a NB 1800 non vvti engine. add ARP studs and some decent pistons and rods. a lot of the early turbo shit like sodium valves, cam profiles and low compression, was simply engineering solutions to account for low tech turbos and even lower tech tuning and ECU's.

400Hp is really pushing it. you are going to be pushing something like 25PSI on a T3/T4 turbo or a 3071.it comes into the category of "stupid amounts of money for a barely useable car" category
howerever if your hell bent on it. this is what you need.
Supertech pistons
"m tuned" rods,
ARP hardware,
ACL bearings.

turbo's wastegate now clears the head . made a steel bracket and painted it with high temp paint.

Oil return fitted and ready :D

can anyone with knowledge on bpt engines verify that the bolt on the left is a water supply . i removed both, the one near the gearbox is oil supply and the other when removed water came out, I'm assuming that water pressure will come from there.

dose anyone know if these bolts are the factory supply sources ?

Factory BPT have another pipe which the mx5 BP doesnt, you can take the feed from the front thermostat fittings I think
