So thinking fm kit budget is close to 30k
Still looking elseware for other options pretty much wanna buy whole kit to fit
Good idea must mention rhd
Want v8 plus stiffer suspension and thinking 17x9 weels with re11z 265 wide < already lookd at tyre options
May want big brake kit

+ slightly more room in the engine bay due to no pop-up lights....oh and they look cooler than NAsSLYDIT wrote:may be worth trading up to an NB for the V8 conversion as they have bigger brakes and ABS and a more sorted chassis for this sort of thing?

Re: v8
What is going to be the purpose of the car, cruiser, track day weapon, drag, drift, all this will effect what you have to do to it, how it is setup, and how much it is going to cost.mr_pool_pool2000 wrote:So thinking fm kit budget is close to 30k

Are you in AKL, I am more than happy to go over what you want to do to make you fully aware of what is involved, and you can have a look over my car.
If you are getting the complete FM V8 kit, then double your budget you mentioned, it's as simple as that. You will need to pick and choose carefully what you ordered vs what you can get here. Have you decided what engine, gearbox, diff you are going to use? Brakes will be dependant on what you are going to use the car for. Suspension, the conversion will add at least 150Kg to the car if you leave everything in place, you WILL need a lot beefier suspension/spring rate, which eliminates 80% of the coilover choices out there (ie the cheap ones), your spring rate will most likely be a min of 12kg/8kg, you could get away with 10/6 but I wouldn't.
As for wheels/tyres, honestly that is most likely the last thing you should be worried about at the moment. I am just running 205's still at the moment, and it is driveable (well, when it is dry that is) and still scares a lot of the big boys on the track, get all the other stuff out of the way first.
This is going to be a major conversion if you are going to run the LSx series of engines, my car is a bit on the extreme side of things, since it was built with track day use in mind, so the only thing left on it that was part of the original car, is the interior and A-Arms, pretty much everything else has been modified or replaced.

R154 is $10,000 from Toyota or about 4-6000 second hand from memorychris wrote:Why are you going v8?
Just wondering if you want more power, more wank factor, the noise etc.
Money wise, the Lexus 1UZ is defs IMO the best value for money, mount it up with a supra gear box, you would be sweet!

Just chiming in to reinforce what Donnovan said - unless you have good fabrication skills (or mates) it is an expensive business. The Lexus is also bloody big - I have just spent weeks trying to build headers for mine. The Ford 302 is so much easier to fit. Lexus makes pretty mild power as well. Don't forget the diff - you quickly find you want another couple of gears as the v8s don't really rev. Best with a 3.5 ratio approx which means a Holden or US Ford probably.

i just cant imagine sinking that kind of money in to a road going NA.
for 30K you could build a kick arse race car that you could push much harder than a V8 NA on the road.....
and for 30K you could build an even more kick arse 2006 NC TURBO road car with 200RWKW adjustable suspension/ABS/air con and all the modern stuff.the thing would be a daily driver road weapon that would see off 95% of sports cars on the road....and no need to worry about big brake kits, custom fabbed gearbox diff mounts etc etc etc
'm a "bang for buck" kinda guy and i just dont see the value in it.
heres where id put 30K....

To each their own. If I was after speed I wouldn't look at an MX5, I'd just get a superbike and be done with it but that's not the same.
A turbo on my car would've been cheaper, less hassle and more bang for buck but well I guess I wanted something different despite it being somewhat of a hassle... Plus the SC to me looks cleaner

I'm doing a N/A build myself, a turbo would be cheaper, but I want to do something a little bit different. Fery few N/A builds in NZ
As Angreal said, if you want to go fast get a bike, A v8 MX5 Would be fuc*ing sexy. A 13b mx5 would be fuc*ing sexy too.
is it worth the $$$? Maybe? Depends on what sort of person you are.
I did forget about the exhausts for the 1uz! They are a pain in the arse!
