Engine builder wanted and advice

Post by warrior » Sun Dec 16, 2012 6:58 pm

My new year project is to refresh and rebuild the head on my car. I have a supercharged 1.6 na.

There are two reasons I am looking at doing this.

1. To get some more performance out of the car.

2. The car smokes a bit on decellaration so I think the value stem guides need doing.

This is roughy what I am looking at doing (any advice would be great)
I will get the head shaved by two points, new oversized valves (1mm bigger)new valve stem guides, port match the head to intake and exhaust. Give the head a port and polish.

I can buy the parts from the states but if anyone know where I could buy them from in NZ please let me know.

I am also looking for someone to do the work in Auckland if possible.

Please let me know your thoughts

I had all the machining done by Glendene engine reconditioners & was very happy with their service. They also sourced my Turbo pistons from Oz and most other parts as needed locally.
Communication was excellent and always rang to confirm before doing anything extra.
You do need to pull it apart & re-build it your self tho and personally i would do a compression test prior to strip down to confirm that just doing the head is all that is needed.

New crankshaft & con-rod bearings, shaved block,0.5mm over-bore & hone, new rings,over-size turbo pistons, they polished my gtx crankshaft, thrust washer, fitted my gtx con-rods to pistons, shaved head, new cam-shaft bearings, new valve-guides,machined the valve seats & guides, checked my gtx cam-shafts,new cam-shaft bearings, fitted my gtx valves & gtx springs, suplied the headset, tanked the block & head,de-carbed the head, machined inlet & exhaust faces to head...approx cost $2445.00 inc gst but need to point out the head gasket set was $310.00 & i bought some running-in oil off them so the direct machine costs were about $2085.00 inc gst.
I serviced my two sets of HLA's & used the best ones out of the two sets otherwise add another $160.00 for a complete set of 16.
I pulled it all apart & put it back together free of charge! :D
Then all you need to buy is anti-freeze & oil filter... put in a good oil after 500-odd km with another oil filter.
Think that just about covers it and was nearly a 50% split in costs [head/block].
