Owning an MX5

Post by Blaster » Tue Nov 27, 2012 8:22 am

YOU KNOW YOU OWN A MIATA WHEN…

When your entire ride to work consists of you bitching and moaning in your head about how it’s loud inside, the suspension is too stiff, your tires make a ton of road noise, the stereo is barely loud enough for you to hear all the static, the a/c barely works or the defroster doesn’t at all, it’s a pain to get in and out of, it attracts too much attention, no one can see you before they switch lanes and almost kill you, shifting sucks in traffic and just in general after a while, the clutch is too stiff, the steering is too stiff, every bump in the road causes your car to make a sudden turn, and the engine runs like turd below 4,000rpm.

And then, after you’ve parked at work or home and shut the engine off, you sit there for an extra 10 seconds to catch your breath it seems, slowly make yoga poses to exit the car, lock the door and carefully close it, and as you walk away you take an extra look over your shoulder at it and think: “I love that little thing”.

Hah I've had all of those thoughts at one point or another :D

Worst one is when you walk into the work carpark and your heart hits your stomach then you remember its probably just behind a car. Takes a little bit of getting used to..

I work at a boat manufacturer in Southland. Most guys either drive a V8 to work or have one in the shed at home. They love it when they see me fall out of mine after a sub 2hour run from Dunedin or compression lock the coming into the driveway (size 13's don't heel toe too well)

The few guys that have given me shit haven't taken me up on the offer to take it for a drive but the few that have riden shot gun fast realise how quick you can push them on the right roads.

I've been through a few cars on my DN-INV drives but none have been as fun as the MX. I suspect I will own another one when this one moves on.

Haha I do the same thing.

Another one is going through a drive through and having the window 200mm above the roof of your car.
Constantly getting asked how you even fit in such a small car.
Becoming the worlds best tetris player when you need to pack it for a trip.

I have been tempted to chop the windscreen off so that I can get free parking in town. They set the bar and machines up for the Remuera/Ponsonby tractors

The fact I drive a mx5 boldly states that I do indeed love noodles.

But you try find a lunch for less than $0.50!

On long trips, I wear my racing gloves and shoes so I can heal toe and drive topless. Amazing feeling with the wind in your hair

A truck? Why not buy another MX? Fit the roof and drive back?

When you walk past your BMW and notice it's been parked so long there's a cobweb over the door.

I did that today.
