Thats a pretty good deal for the 600D, that camera with a twin lens kit over here is around 1000 for a non-parallel imported one.

Was out at the 4&rotary show and shine today taking pics, got a few decent ones. Was a little difficult with the huge crowd and me not liking to change my iso setting too high resulted in some pretty long exposure times

I saw an exact same ute on speedhunters i think or was it in aus. Carbon copy...... Which came first?

...Its the same ute. owned and built by Nigel Petrie. Hes from australia and flew himself, his mrs and his car over for the event. He built this thing from the floor up - everything was pieced together, fabricated, welded and molded over two and a half (ish) years. Even the chassis frame. In my opinion, its one of the worlds best drift builds. So tidy too...

I had Rig of Tirabytes telling me I should get into the media pass thing too, so I'd be interested to know how it works I suppose. He mentioned it being along the lines of being chosen based on photography page/Facebook notoriety and whatnot though, which would make sense unless you have contacts for other avenues.

My problem would be getting off my ass and being bothered to get the photos edited afterwards

Definitely an insanely cool build and some lovely sharp and creamy photos Ashleigh!

One for the isle of man tt, MotoGP and formula one would be so good but more so I can watch from the prime spots rather than take photos

Im doing work for Oversteer TV so Kenny Ruddell sorted them out for me.
You need to email Brendan White and apply for media accreditation, but it might be a bit hard seeing as its the middle of the season.

Getting to every round is pretty expensive though.

Hey, just wandering, what is your longest range sigma lens and do you enjoy using it? im not keen on wanting to borrow Andrews 70-200mm all the time because its his prized lens haha. Even if its a prime, its all good.

Do you mean Sigma lens or single lens? I've got the Sigma 35/1.4 and it's pretty amazing for car shots, though for car show shots ala 4&R I found 24mm to be more useful. As for longer lenses I've got an 85mm (which I think you've got access to) and the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 VC which is FANTASTIC.

If you're in the market for a 70-200mm then get the Tamron. It's solid and the image quality is possibly even better than Canon. It's definitely slightly sharper than the Nikon equivalent. If you were having to expose it constantly to the elements and carrying it over mountains and through jungles you might want the Canon but for enthusiast and pretty much weekend use where you look after it in between then the Tamron does everything you need. Everything.

If you're wanting to do panning shots though you're wasting your money on an f/4 or f/2.8 (because you're sitting at say f/16 or higher) and you'll be able to save heaps of money and weight on say a Canon 55-250mm STM. If I shot crop I'd have a 55-200mm for motorsport, and even full frame I'm seriously considering buying a Nikon 70-300mm with VR to cut down weight and just saving my Tamron for zoo shoots or portraiture.

i have a 55-250 but it doesnt get shots anywhere near as good as the 70-200. Will the tamron fit canon tho? and how much are they?

Yeah, the 55-250 is unlikely to be as sharp as a professional 70-200. I'm not sure if Canon has something more middle-of-the-road, lightweight but fairly sharp?

Otherwise if you don't mind the weight Tamron certainly does offer a Canon mount version but make sure it's the newest VC version 70-200. I bought mine I think for about $1500 or 1700ish from Expert Infotech, who I'd probably buy lenses from but from my recent experience not something like a camera body (just fought tooth and nail to finally get a refund on my failed D600).

When/where are you shooting next? Welcome to give mine a try on D3s if it's something I'd come along to.

You can always go for a Canon 70-200mm f4 L like I have. They can be picked up brand new for under $850 if you don't mind parallel imported ones.
It can produce really sharp pics for the price.
Can post some example shots when I get home.

I feel as though the heavier lenses you can get a better handle on panning,
having a light say.. kit 55-250 compared to the weight of a 70-200,
Feels more positive?
Steadies your movements and some times more hits?

Just from what i've noticed playing with all kinds of lenses.

Is good to see people going for a low shutter,
I hate to see cars standing still while they're moving.

Getting media is quite tricky,
Definitely if you're a no-body, and I think you'd have no chance getting a mid season pass.
You have to apply well before the season,
they cap it at 25.

Im prob not going to be shooting again until D1 next month in Taupo, now that the mx is gone im trying to save oodles of cash. Anything thats spare will be likely to go into a lens. Id be keen to check it out if you do any days in pukekohe though, im virtually up the road 90% of the time because thats where Andrew lives. I can always swing by with a body!

Is yours image stabilized though Daniel?
I was also looking at this lens - http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-ph ... 710428.htm . ignore the price and stuff, it was just the first one i found on trademe. I wont be able to afford one till the end of d1 season at least though. Rent to pay, etc.
