cheapest package courier to china?

Post by MrGrey » Mon Mar 18, 2013 7:55 pm

ok now here's an off topic question....

I am going to get a sexy set of mazdaspeed side skirts from Ross @ mx5mart (love your site and service by the way *thumbs up*8) )

Now, seen as CarbonMiata does not yet have any side skirts in his catalog, I dropped Marc an email asking if he was interested in having a look at them.

To cut a long story short, I am wondering if anyone here has had any experience with sending packages to China/overseas and managed to find a decent price..... after a 5min look on the NZ post website it looked like they wanted to charge me $148 for economy courier which seems like a ripoff when it cost me about $55 to have my hardtop spoiler sent here from China. I don't mind paying around $100 or less but $148 just seems silly.

I will do further price checking, but maybe someone already has some experience and knows the best place to go to.

at a rough guess the package would be approximately 200mm x 350mm x 1600mm and I would assume would weigh less than 10kg

Thanks in advance.

-=edit=- ok looks like I can safely cut them in half and he can repair them at his end which will drastically reduce the cost 8)

and they would be heading to shanghai, area code 200025 in the Luwan district.

I send a fair bit of stuff overseas, thats quite reasonable,I would question that they would take them due to length, max length is 1500mm anything that size i send overseas usually has to go by TNT.

Cutting in half will help, but remember it will bulk up your parcel in other dimensions

Got to remember,There always shipments coming to NZ from China almost everyday so bulk freight means cheaper shipping, not so much heading back,so less freight more shipping.

We get stuff cheaper to the North island than what North islanders can get to us using the same company,Same idea.

Thanks Brownie, that makes a lot of sense.

I sent them off today, ended up costing $97 for a 4kg package, so the cost wasn't as painful as I had planned for.
