Radar detectors - What's best?

Morning all, just forwarding a message for Paul regarding radar detectors...

Hi all I am after some help with purchasing a radar detector for use in the 5. Can anyone recommend a good one they currently use, recommend a good model/brand. I don't want to spend huge money and would not be in a position to afford something like the Valentine1. Was looking around the Whistler pro78 /cobra etc. Any info would be great. I'm no speeder but with the national drive and Nelson rally coming up the potential to just creep up a bit and be nabbed for it is huge.

I think this is something you need to Google, there are bound to be product
reviews out there, just Google something like - Whistler Pro test - or -
Whistler pro review, there will be a few marketing hits but there should
also be some decent tests/reviews. I do it for everything I buy (just
about). And given modern police gear, a radar detector will only save you
against a lazy cop who didn't put his gear on standby.

are they trying to ban detectors as well or just scramblers? which i believe cannot be used no more?

I've heard only rumours of detector bans for many years, but scramblers have
been illegal for a long time. That said I know of a dodgy web site selling
them here along with Radar detectors etc. The site seems to be run by people
hailing from that rather large country sitting just above Hong Kong. I know
this as they tired to rip me off on another purchase which turned out to be
a very poor fake item being sold as an original, no emails returned after
that, so I had to track them down via other means and make a personal
assertive request for a refund, which I got. So whatever you buy, get it
from a reputable retailer with a walk in shop.
