Injector cleaning

Post by poison » Tue Nov 22, 2005 11:18 pm

I rang a few places a while ago and got prices (that I can't find now sorry)
and I recall there were some price variations. There were a couple of
injector specialists in the old yellow pages, from memory the one on the
Shore never answered the phone so I gave up on him. Anyway I'd be keen to
hear how you get on once you get them done.

Cheers

Injector cleaning

Post by Euen » Tue Dec 20, 2005 9:42 pm

Hi all

For those interested, I got my injectors cleaned at Carburettor Specialties
at 65 Carlton Gore Road in Auckland. Cost was $25 per injector plus tax but
included a new set of seals and "nozzles".

A couple of them were quite gummed up as the engine had been sitting for
quite some time so I am quite pleased I decided to get them done.

I also heard of a company called Petroject in Albany however Carb
Specialties were handy to work.

Cheers
Euen

Anyone see "Secrets of a car thief" last night?

They broke into a MX5 using a screwdriver in 4 seconds.

On the bright side the guy commented that he had never stolen one
before, so I guess as well as being bums and to lazy to work and save $$
for their own car - car thieves have no taste either.

Hi Euen

Is the engine you're reassembling the MX5 1600 for your MG TF replica
project? I'm very interested to hear how the car runs once you get it on the
road.

The Lotus 7 (by Caterham) I told you about some little while ago is powered
by the MX5 1600 (circa 1990) engine as the base motor.

On an interesting note, have found recently that the 98 octane BP Ultimate
fuel now produces more power and is running cleaner than it used to. Asked
BP about this and they said the high octane fuel is imported fully refined
from their facility in Perth, which is one of the most modern and advanced
in the world. The cokey burning benzene content is now only 1% and they have
developed a new engine detergent cleaning additive which is much superior to
what they were using up until June this year. Now works even better to keep
fuel injector nozzles clean & clear and more effectively removes deposits
from and maintains cleanliness of piston crowns, valve seats and ports.

I've been looking for a 1600 MX5 for some time now because I very much like
the superb handling qualities but need more power. Best performance
I could get saw 100 k's in 9.5 seconds compared to my slightly modified 1990
1600 Astina's 7.1 seconds. Even the 1800 barely managed 9 seconds.

I mean, the MX5's superb chassis can handle way more power than that.
Especially when you've got stocker 4 cylinder 2.4 litre Honda Euro Accords
at 8.0 seconds and most of the new Jap V6 Sedans in the mid 7's.

I'd like to see about around 6.5 seconds to the 100k's for an NA - I reckon
that would be the ideal level of performance, matched to a what is already a
great chassis, but with a set of decent gas shocks, anti-roll bars, metallic
pads on new rotors and 215 40's on 17's.

I'll save more pennies in order to do this from day one. Am following
member's current turbo modification projects & excellent links provided with
interest.

Cheers, Merry Christmas & have a Happy New Year.

Hi Mark

Yes it is for the TG but it is a '96 1800. I guess I am probably more
interested than you in how it runs as I never ran the engine before
stripping and rebuilding.

I have heard varying stories about the performance of the the 1800 compared
to the 1600 and not all were favourable. I have had a few improvements made
to the breathing although retained the standard valves. Interestingly, when
the head was flow tested, the performance reduced by about 14% when the
inlet manifold was refitted.

It could be another couple of months before it hits the road (dammit).

If you can find one, in 2001 Mazda released a VVT version of the 1800 with
10:1 compression, ironically designated the BP Z3. I haven't been able to
find out a lot about it but it was supposedly rated at about 150hp for
markets outside the US. If anyone knows any more about this unit I would be
interested in hearing about it.

Your comments about Ultimate are intresting as I have heard there have been
some supply problems recently. One of the local stations has had to go back
to 96 because they have been unable to get supplies because I guess BP is
only supplying the ones with higher turn-overs.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all on the list. It has been
an enlightening and interesting year.

Cheers
Euen
