Eric
We too own a 528i (and an MX5) and have found a great guy on the Hibiscus
Coast who understands BMW motors (and MX5s). Try John McGhee on 09 424 8071
or 621 Whangaparaoa Rd. He uses the analyser first! I think you guys are
locals so should know where he is

If i had to fix a BMW/AUDI/MERC etc i would expect a
big bill but this is a standard 2.0L mondeo here guys,
and $2,050 worth of parts is just CRIMINAL. Remember
the labour was only about $380 and that was reasonable
as the subframe has to drop out and then the steering
rack has to be re-aligned when it goes back in.
Ive rung around and the cheapest quote so far is
$1400.
Im not even going to ask them how much to fix that
small oil leak from the rocker cover...
I knew i should have bought a toyota...

I've seen RD5T3R about! Ours is PURLEE so wave when you see us.

I use Greg at Hibiscus Autotech for most of my work, but I thought I might be
paying for him to learn on the job with this one! Oh well, we all make
mistakes.

As well as us having PURLEE, there is also POURLY up on the Coast somewhere,
it is a BRG MX5! I'd love to know who it belongs to.

Hi Eric, $2.25 at the post office and you get the owners details.

Slightly off topic - but along the lines of huge bills that shock.

Last night my wife came back from North Harbor Ford and Mazda after they
had fixed a faulty sensor on her Ford Focus ST170 (nice little car).

They pointed out she needed 2 new tyres on front (I knew this), and
kindly got a quite for her - $688 per tire.

Yes that's $1376 for new front tyres without an alignment !!! She was
running the 215/45/R17 Contisports, but now will be moving to
Bridgestone Potenza GIII's - another great tyre but only $260 per
tyre!!!

As an aside I run the same tyre (The GIII) on my MX-5 and can highly
recommend them.
