This has just come through from MAZDA NZ.

"It's official - we have an official Guinness World Record for the largest
parade of Mazda (MX-5) cars. We've just checked the online tracking
function."

Will post more as it is known or check www.mazda.co.nz

At least we're all in the photographs.

I'll bring the big ones along on the trip to Huntly (plus some CD's)

It is my understanding that the agency that handled the paper work with
Guiness are working on each of the registered participants (that the cars that
completed the form and put it in the box at the event) receiving an
acknowledgement of somesort.

Odd... We have had 500+ cars together at events here in the UK and
I'm sure I read of larger meets in the States. (Sorry to rain on
your parade!)

Hi Terry, couple of points, we had to travel 4 kilometers in an unbroken
convoy not just park up at an event somewhere, every car had to be verified
by drivers name, registration and contact details, and we were first to
take the initiative to lodge with Guinness Book of records.

Oh and yes it did rain on the convoy but we kept our tops down!!! He He.

The official record title for the Guinness record is: "Largest parade of
Mazda cars". It is not listed on the guinness site
http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/ but then they only seem to list a
selection of records there. Sells books I suppose.

Incidentally, the largest parade of Utes was 2,839 in Darwin in 1999...

I was looking through the book "MX-5, 15 Years of Mazda MX5", put together by Mazda and I saw a note that the Guiness Book of Records stated that in May 1993 the Miata Club of America had 242 cars together on the circuit at Indianapolis. If we had 249, we only just made it. However, 249 is greater than 242 and a reord is a record, and it's ours.
