.97 SR LTD. problem

Post by Allan Morpeth » Mon Sep 05, 2005 6:28 pm

Hi Simon,
Thanks for replying. I have been away 2 days.
Mine is the same as yours . I still have a 89 red! one and like both colours.
My 89 is in the first 1950 chassis numbers issued in Japan.
This car has had the catylactic/converter removed last week and now a
different car after 4 years. Great accelleration and as quick as the 97/5
speed up to 110 kph.
The 97 SR LTD chassis is 8NA 408771. Would be interested how close to yours.
The noise problem is in drive in any gear . Checked on downhill in neutral as
well. Quite rowdy, changed wheels/tyres with the 89 and the noise stayed. The
car now has a colour matched lined hardtop and the noise is still there. My
mechanic thinks minimal sound proofing and needs more felt under the carpets.
Will do this next month as it looks about a 2 day job at my age. (retired home
mechanic...).
The diff must be non lsd as the following checks were done.

Jack up 1 rear wheel, neutral, hand brake off. Wheel spins freely as a normal
car.

Jack up diff. Spin 1 wheel. the other wheel should rotate the same way...It
went the other way as a normal car.

Put car on grass verge with 1 wheel on tarseal and the other on grass. Drove
away slowly with grass side wheel spinning.

Mention this to your mechanic and let me know what he thinks. My mechanic is
older than me and the last time we worked on LSD assemblies was early 80's
with race cars. Perhaps the Japanese have a different type unfamiliar to me.
Someone out there might have the solution ...maybe
