Hi All,

I've just listed my '95 VR LTD for sale, on the site and TRADE ME, and
just had an enquiry from a chap from South Africa. !! I can remember
reading, somewhere, about a dodgy scammer trying to buy stuff here from
S.A. and the funds not coming through. Thought it was on our forum, but
can't find it in the archives. Anyone remeber this?

Hi Andy,
If u have a name and address, and possibly bank address, I may be able to
check up for you, I have sons and daughters over there plus other connections
after living there for 35 years. Two of them are in a Bank. My son had a MX5
they are much more expensive there. they used to have a 100% import tax on
them!

Remember it well. I had fun corresponding for a while and
gave him my bottom price for my 92... $200,000 US dollars.
Strange. Didn't hear from him after that. Was my price unrealistic?

Hi Rodney,
Thanks for the reply. The only thing I've got at this stage is a name 'Bill
Cone' (is that a twist on conn !?). I'll reply to his email and get back to
you if he replies with more info.

Cheers,

Andy

No. Still have the car. I figure the fun factor is worth the
200K. Then there's the parts value... I'm sure I could get
more...

Hi Nigel,
Yes, good to meet you too. Quite good timing to re the other car, I was quite
keen to buy that one (doh!).
Colleen and I came up to Auckland at the weekend to look at the 2002 one as
discussed, but it had been sold before I could see it, and it,s now in
Invercargill. However, I saw a black one, 2000, NZ new, which was a bit of a
stunner, but we're just a bit out in the negotiating field, and am trying to
sell mine privately to adjust the funds. I was going to call you, if the deal
was going to happen, to see if you had time to cast your critical eye over the
car, but it might be a couple of weeks before I can get a bit more serious.
The car is owned by a previous club member who now lives in France, so you may
already know it.
The other alternative I was thinking of was an AA test if there's a centre
close enough. Any thoughts here.?

Thanks again Nigel, hope to catch up soon,

Andy

I had a buyer from the US, wanting to buy it for his pastor in N1geria
(doh). I set my price at US$5,000 plus shipping. I got a cheque
(looked like it was done on a colour laser printer) for US$15,000 about
10 days later, mailed from Austria. Then an email saying "whoops I
overpaid, but you're a trustworthy person, please send me back the
difference by Western Union money order, to an address in the UK. The
Internet is truly a global community.
