As a Global IT director for an IT Company with several hundred IT staff

, and having consulted on this to several originations - Bill your
views are somewhat outdated.

You will find that most companies allow reasonable usage, as long as the
material is not offensive etc. This is of course unless the origination
has specific requirements requiring auditable proof on all
communications (M&A departments of Banks etc)

Anyway - this is not the place to argue this. I'm just glad that I work
for a company that is a good and reasonable employer, with appropriate
and up to date HR policies.

Doesn't this just make you sick, obviously someone took this car for a
joyride, ran it out of fuel and decided to smash it up for "fun" or
frustration

The kind of cretins who do this have obviously never done a day's work in
their lives, or they would know the value of it. The only suitable penalty
is castration, to stop the b-stards breeding.

I am sure we would all like to know the final outcome

Personally I'd be in favour of adopting laws and penalties similar to
Singapore's system ... except of course for speeding

Would you also prefer that we are only able to buy 800cc Ladas so the speed
limit is enforced more easily? :p
Dont get me wrong, car thieves should be tortured to within an inch of their
lives but speeding is an entirely different kettle of fish and there have
been plenty of good case studies done on areas with higher speed limits or
open speed zones.

Bill, It's a little thing called respect, discipline and old fashioned
Victorian morality.

I'm not sure where we have gone wrong, but I suspect it is in the area of
"Political Correctness" and the emphasis on rights over responsibility.

And frankly the kids who do this kind of thing are almost to be pitied,
because until they learn these things they will never amount to anything
worthwhile, and what a waste of life that is!

Mine was stolen a few weeks ago from a supermarket carpark, and returned
with almost no damage to another carpark Or were the storing it there for
the next evenings ride?
The insurance company still managed to spend $3500 on it, which didn't
include any panelbeating. Or so they said in their summary letter.

I apologise profusely for this but I feel it does need to be said - Mine is
a white one which of course is equal parts R, B, and G.

Tell you what I believe is the trouble with young car thieves and hoodlums -
they've been brought up with no discipline.

It all began when New Zealand signed the United Nations Charter for "The
Rights of The Child". It should be correctly read as "The Right of The
Child to do whatever he wants whenever he wants and get away with it". Ask
some of the older serving members of the Police - they'll tell you all about
they've been humstrung by it's consequences.

Among other things I'd bring the cane back into schools, breaking rocks for
car thieves and burglars and the cat o' nine tails for unprovoked assault.
Anyone else got a few more ideas!

I remember many years ago, wandering into a parking building with my
girlfriend at the time and she stopped and stiffened up - I though what the
hell have I done this time?!?

Anyway, I looked where she was looking and saw someone getting out of her
car. I tried to casually wander over but he took off, I managed to give
chance and catch the shit. Because I had pretty much just started going out
with her I though I should create a good impression so I phoned the cops
while I was holding him by the scruff of the collar.

The police arrived and took him away. After a couple of weeks or so we
discovered that he had done similar stuff before including driving drunk (I
think he was 14 at the time I got him). Anyway I ended up taking a day off
work to come into Wellington to go to the youth court (he was pleading not
guilty), but changed things before we got into the court. After a
family/restoative justice type thingy we never heard much more about it.

I think next time I'll just knee the shit in the balls and elbow him in the
head and leave the waste of life in the gutter (as I should have done many
years ago)

Just don't get me started on the ex-upstairs neighbour being charged with
receiving stuff that was burgled from our flat and getting off on some
bullshit because she had a drug problem and kids that had problems as well.

Yes but I would be here all night typing it up...
You don't steal too often in some countries - well you can't really, they
chop off your hands. Rape, well we won't go there - ah lads, can't rape
again either. And drugs in some countries are not too welcome , as we see
most nights on the TV. Maybe we need to take a look at our selves and
decide just what the average Joe Bloggs Kiwi is willing to put up with.
