door problem

I have a problem with the drivers door locking/unlocking mechanism - got
locked in the car as I drove along yesterday! My mechanic has recently
put in a second-hand lock but that doesn't seem to be the problem - door
wasn't locked - just wouldn't open with handle (nor with keys once I
wound my window down). Is there a common fault that he (the mechanic)
should be looking for
