MX5 in Australia

Post by r.v.boxall » Thu Apr 21, 2005 9:15 am

Subject chenge please?

Has anyone any experience in exporting their MX5 to Australia? A job has come up in Brisbane, and we don't want to say farewell to our toy! Does it comply with Aussie Regs?

I have to return to South Africa and would also like to know about taking my car there - does anyone know if this can be done? Desperately do not want to sell car (only had it for 11months!!!) - it will be a very sad day when I have to sell her!

It should definitely be easier with an NZ model, as they've been
spec'd the same as Aussie cars AFAIK so should not have problems with
the OZ compliancy. That's my 2c...

OOOPS!!!

I omitted to say that my MX5 is a Japanese import, not a NZ new one. I'm not into the Spartan life!!!

MX5 in Australia

We decided to sell ours and made a young lady very happy in doing so,the
Nazis that call themselves Aussie customs made things to difficult and
expensive to make it worthwhile.

And honestly here in the Pilbara region of western Australia there is
only a 3 month window of oppurtunity to use one, the weather is just to
hot and the roads to straight anyway.

Be prepared to pay 10% duty 10% GST,stevedoring and wharfage charges,
inspection and steam cleaning charges, certification charges etc the list
just went on with us.

Not to mention having to check for snakes, spiders and other venomous things
every time you parked it with the roof down...
