I have recently had two incidents on my 89 Eunos of the drivers side rear brake
sticking. On the second occasion it was really bad and within a few metres was
getting very hot and smoking.
Mechanics have stripped the brakes down, cleaned them and replaced the pads, but
were unable to find the cause.
Has anyone had similar problems? What was the solution?
Regards
John

Try the handbrake mechanism sticking and not releasing properly. If it is
knackered they can be resleeved if not too bad
It is probably the problem...

Brakes Problem
When I stripped my brakes down the slider pin on the right rear caliper was
rusty and sticking a bit. I replaced it, wasn't expensive... I can't see
what else would cause it to stick. Are you sure they actually dismantled the
caliper when they did the job?

The sliding pins can be cleaned with fine emery tape and lubricated with
copper anti seize paste, this should last quite a while. Ian Cole

Brakes Problem
I have also experienced the non-releasing rear brakes.
In my case it was a non-complete release of the hand brake. This was fixed on
the road-side by jiggling the hand brake pivot at the calliper (car in gear,
brake off) and at the workshop by stripping and lubing the pivot assembly.
I might add that it took a little effort with lubing the slide bolts etc
before finding the real cure.
One of our local mx5 group members has experienced two rear brake fires as a
result of incompetent brake servicing (neither too serious)
Cheers
