that "Rod's Mazda Miata Enthusiast Shop Manual" is one of the better
repair guides available for our MX-5's. (short of the official Mazda
manual @ $300 or more!)
Untill now, it has only specifically applied to the 1.6 models.
The 1.8 version has been long promised, but most people had given up
waiting...
A few days ago I saw mention that it would finally be available in a
week or so in the USA. (On the Miata mailing list, and
www.miata.forum)
Well, I can inform all the kiwis out there, that I physically saw the
book yesterday on the Techbooks stand at Big Boys Toys. (I also saw
the new 2001 MX-5, and I like the pale blue colour

I didnt flick through the book, but assuming its up to the same
standard as the 1.6 version, its well worth having. It will hold your
hand through items as simple as changing brake-pads, all the way up to
re-building the engine or gear-box. All in easy to follow steps, with
LOTS of photographs and diagrams.
Also, if it is available at techbooks, you can be sure it will also be
available from Ecurie Lierve (an MX-5 club sponsor) and online at
flying pig too...
So, all you 1.8 owners who've been scared to get the 1.6 book, incase
it didnt quite apply to your car (it probably did in most cases), now
you've got a book to buy!
Fletch.
