Home made windblocker plans

Post by John Warren » Tue Oct 17, 2000 9:38 pm

I have made a windblocker for my '91, cost 1 can of black spraypaint, a bit
of hardboard left over from something and a bit of bungy cord.!

I used a piece of 6mm tempered hardboard (the darker brown, tougher version
of hardboard) 300x800mm. Drill 2 holes centrally 280mm in from the ends.
Round all the corners and edges and paint. Get 1600mm of fine bungy cord.
Knot one end, thread it through one hole, back into the other hole and knot
it again. Installation means putting it against the back of the seats,
wrapping the cord around the front of the seat (it sits neatly in the crease
where the headrest starts), around the back of the seats and over the back
of the windblocker, and around the other seat. Takes all of 10 seconds. The
diagram explains it better than the text! I used a bit of black nylon tape
for the exposed bits at the front, so it hides against the black of the
seats.

If you don't have a windblocker, you must try one. It just about stops the
buffetting that occupants' inside ears get. Easier to talk with your
passenger and far more comfortable on a trip! I see from tests that they
also drop inside noise by about 5db.

I'll add the text to the site when I get time.
