What are the alternatives to the panasonic battery. What is the problem with
using a normal battery?

Greetings, I am using a small type standard battery in my MX5- no problems and
a lot cheaper-local agent CHCH qouted me $250 for the Panasonic and had to
come down from Auckland. Had my battery supplied and installed by Marshall
batteries for approx $90 and they told me this was a normal alternative to the
panasonic,

David
As Trevor says there is nothing wrong with using a standard battery, i
have been using these batteries now for 7yrs along with most other club
members and i change mine every 3yrs, (just a personal thing) some
people frown on the fact that they vent into the boot unlike the
original factory one with vent tubes, but then the Mini has had the
battery in the boot for 40yrs with no ventilation and that was never a
concern, (until you open the boot), so why worry, just make sure the
terminals are the right way round, and most are a bit taller so you need
to make the rod longer and hook the brace in the next hole up
