Did you contact any insurance brokers to get quotes?. A few years back, when I was under 25 and had a record of crashing "high risk" cars, I tried to get insurance for a Honda CRX and every insurance company either laughed in my face or wanted to charge me over $1500 a year (& I don't even live in Auckland). I eventually went to a broker and they got me a considerably better deal (considering my past) and they are constantly looking for cheaper options for me.

Crikey!! Am I glad I live in In'gill!! $182 pa for $10,000 declared, over 25, $500 excess and no hooks seems almost a mistake by AMI. (of course they have three other cars plus house and contents)
