Replacement tops & glass windows

I love my glass rear window.

Only issue that I know of is it wont sit flat if you're planning on
getting a roll-bar.

The window is slightly shorter than the plastic window, but only at
the bottom, and you dont really need to see the boot-lid in the rear
view mirror, do you?

Fletch.

I believe that may be a problem with some (but not all) models of the
Robbins brand tops.

Mine is an EZ-On top, and has no such problems. Factory boot fits
fine...

Replacement tops & glass windows

Hi Gary

Tomorrow (Monday), my baby goes to get a new window. I did cost out a glass
one, but at $600 +GST it did not appeal too much. Ok, it's glass and there
are a couple of perks with demisters and stuff, the actual window space
itself is smaller and if it ever gets broken and has to be replaced they
remove the entire back panel instead of just stitching in a plastic one, it
also has to be smaller for when you put the roof down, you can't fold glass.
If I was rich and famous it would be great, but there are too many vandals
around here to know it's gonna last. Demisters and the extras are that ..
extra. Costs more to get that stuff hooked up. I've decided to run with a
very good quality plastic instead. Good luck with your decision. If you do
go with the glass, I'd like to hear your opinion on it :)

Regards
Tina

Replacement tops & glass windows

Hi, Gary.
Sorry I haven't responded sooner.
I have a glass window and have some concerns with it, also some advantages.
Good...
clear vision-less care on cold days-doesn't mark or scratch
not so good...
heavier, meaning roof raising is not so easy- my zip is too short-roll bar
mounting restricted

as for the folded height, I use my top boot all the time.
Easy to look at if you would like.

Cheers
Colin

I may have missed a rounds on this one so at the risk of being redundant:
If I have a 91 (which I do) and replace the whole top with one with a
glass back window, will the extra height when the soft top is down caused
by the glass prevent me from using my hardtop?

No probs Gary, wish I had more info for you about the height when folded down,
but I didn't delve that far.

Replacement tops & glass windows

I've been overseas (was nice to be in a warm climate again) and may have
missed a discussion on the following:

I have a 91 MX5 and am thinking about replacing the soft top with one that
has a glass back window. Will the glass, which I'm told causes the soft top
not to fold tightly when its down, prevent me from using my hardtop?

I find with my current soft top (with the well worn plastic window
unzipped) just barely collapses enough to install my hardtop.
