Fuel Filter - WHERE?

Post by ANDREAS LUNDH » Tue Apr 10, 2001 11:18 am

Hey folks,

Just enquiring if anyone can tell me where to locate
the fuel filter on the engine bay...? Any and all
advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also had the privledge of seeing the "MX5 convoy" on
my way to Hamilton, very impressive... keep it up
people.

Sincerely

Fuel Filter - WHERE?

Hi Andreas,
The fuel filter is not in the engine bay. It is under the floor pan,
towards the back of the driver's seat and you need to jack the car up quite
high to get good access to it. I know because I just changed mine last
weekend. The filter is covered by a plastic cover which is secured by
screw-type fastenings that are not actually screws. I understand that they
can be quite tricky to unscrew, but mine all came out sweetly. The trick in
unscrewing them is not to apply any forward pressure onto the screw head,
because if you do, then the fastening will just turn but not come out. Also
have a couple of golf tees handy (the wooden type, not plastic) to plug up
the rubber fuel lines once you have disconnected them from the filter.
The Enthusiasts Manual gives a good description of what is involved.

Cheers
Murray

I'm pretty sure it is not in the engine bay - it is mounted with the fuel
pump under the fuel tank at the back. I've never had it out so someone else
will have to give you a better description sorry

Could anyone advise how often or under what circumstances the fuel filter
should be changed, and how much they cost?

Thanks
Tim

The fuel filter sits above the rear axle. After market replacement cost
around $60 from memory. Don't know how often you should replace them though.
