re[2]: lightweight flywheel

Post by Mathew » Thu Dec 12, 2002 4:28 pm

What exactly are all the pro's of a lightened flywheel??. When I had my clutch replaced I had a flywheel fitted as well, as Ray had been raving for years about what a great thing they are. The main thing I noticed after it was fitted was that when cruising around town at sedate speeds the revs dropped much slower when you took your foot off the accelerator. In order to change gears smoothly (mostly downshifts) I now need to do it a lot slower (ie. longer time between clutch in and out). I am only assuming it is the flywheel that causes this, as I had only had the car a few weeks before it was put in and I was still getting used to the supercharger (and the slipping clutch) so the cause may be something else altogether.

What you describe actually sounds like a heavier fly-wheel...

Typically, a lighter flywheel should change speeds quicker, like drop revs
faster between gear... also, if you miss-match the revs on a gear-change,
the jerking effect is less, due to the engine having less momentum...

That's strange, Mine seemed to drop revs faster.
Maybe it's not the f/wheel, have you checked the throttle damper adjustment?
