spacers ... Cam regrind

Post by Sean Craig » Wed Dec 04, 2002 4:34 pm

yep it's all fun and games that i will miss till my return
and yes mx5s are gutless and all the jurnos that i know that have them
have got them modified in some way or another. simply low cost mods
like cold airbox extractors exhaust and maybe a regrind in the cam
department. has anyone had a cam regrind done by celford camtec? i've
only heard third hand that the results are really good. figures like
20% plus gain in top end power on the 1.6 without harming low end
performance.

A cam will only give this sort of improvement if you have an aftermarket
ecu. Ask Fletch, he's done it. I don't think it was worth 20% though, at
least not the cam alone. On Wed, 4 Dec 2002 16:34:16 +1300, Sean Craig

Sean,

You've driven my car...

Thats with Cams and a Link ECU... (and more standard exhaust and intake
mods).

I probably have an extra 20% more power than stock? Id say half was due to
the exhaust/intake mods, and half due to the cams, but you cant run those
cams without the ECU.

I've still got more work to do, I suspect (hope) I can get another 5 HP just
by playing with cam-timing and tuning, but I havent had much time for that
lately...

My point is, I dont think you can get 20% with just a re-ground cam.

Fletch.
Red '90. Many n/a mods and Link ECU
