I almost missed your Marble mountain comment.
What a great road. I counted 273 turns last time I did it.
It's the only time I've ever come anywhere near feeling car sick
and I was the driver
In an article I wrote for the club web site, I ranked it second after the Haast to Fox road
Does anyone else agree? Locals told us it took half an hour because it was so twisty.
We took 11 mins even with a fully loaded car. Wow
For those who haven't done it, I would highly recommend a driving holiday around
South Island. I've been all over the world and our four weeks around South Island
was the best holiday I've ever had. It was also the cheapest so there no reason
not to go.
Cheers
Chic

Marble Mountain
Great road alright. The Isuzu Bighorn certainly takes a lot longer than 11
minutes!. The Haast to Fox road is very good as well. Much better scenery on
the Haast to Fox one, and the smells from the damp bush are great. Because
of this, it would rate higher than the Marble Mountain. Lots of great drives
around here. Try the drive from Picton to Havelock around the Grove track
Have to be a bit careful though in summer as many tourists on the road and
they aren't too good at keeping left. If you like playing on unsealed roads,
then plenty of those in the Marlborough Sounds as well.
I often get paid to drive these roads, so as long as I don't need too many
spares or test equipment, the MX5 is the work vehicle of choice (of course).
Grant.
