Tyres and wheels

Post by biff » Fri Oct 11, 2002 1:46 pm

Hi all,
I popped in to see the guyz at Mazline in Christchurch and spoke to
Mark, nice guy, very helpful, and pointed me in the right direction on a
few things.
While I was there I asked about tyres, mine seem to be of 3 different
types, and are due for the bin, he has 4 G Grid2's (8-9mill tyre depth)
and a set of the new model MX mags that would fit, and he's offered both
the mags and tyres for what seems a fair price.
Has anyone run the Bridgestone G-Grid2's and if so what do you think?
Most of the driving is around town with the mandatory weekend top down
squirt around some twisty stuff.
If you can help it would be appreciated.
B
PS the car is stock standard...AND ITS RED! (they go faster right?)
That's what the salesman told me ;)

G Grids are a mid-range performance tyre, I think they are on a par with Yoko
A539's which have had good reports. If the price is right, why not? What size
are they?

Thanks Lou,
They are the stock size, Mark at Mazline had them on his then went to
lower profile, he's offering the new MX5 2000 model mags and tyres; for
my old mags, (Mazda spoked type stock 1600cc) and $500.00, I'd have to
get them balanced.
Sound fair?

MessageI assume they're 15's not 16's. $500 sounds OK.

Yoko A539's are getting good reports, my wife's Skyline has them. My brother
has Barums on his 5 and likes them.

$800 for 4 205-60 x 15's. Fitted and balanced at Marshall Tyres. I think the
Barums were a bit cheaper for 195-50 x 15's, Marshalls don't do these though.

I've just fitted Yoko A539's to mine (185-60 x 14) $585 for 4 from Mag &
Turbo in Manakau city.It pays to shop around as there was a quite a
variation in prices I was quoted from other shops.

Hi Aaron,
I have just fitted Bridgestone Grid 2's, bit noisy, but I did drive on a
set of Grid 3's, very nice, and about 135.00 fitted etc from the
Bridgestone performance shop in Christchurch.
Hope this helps

Aaron,
I know the feeling, I'm doing the same myself ;)

There is a place here in ChCh that makes the kit that most of the NZ
"go-fast" shops sell, they will give an MX5 club discount, and will do a
discount for "bulk" (2) kits ordered at the same time.

The web site is
http://www.aerotech.co.nz/Index.htm

The white MX in the photo's is local and it looks much better than the
web site, the team at Foxton Plastics will mail you photos if you ask,
or send me the address and I'll get them posted.
