Strange Noises

Can some knowledgeable owner out there tell me how much slack at the tyre running surface, if any, one could expect to feel in the CV's of a Mk I? I have been experiencing a "clacking" noise under gentle braking at slow speeds and am hoping it is not my rear drive train. Can't say for sure which wheel(s) it is coming from.

Check CV's by holding CV and twisting half shaft, you shouldn't feel any play.
It actually sounds brake related, if it only clicks when braking, it could be
the pads moving in the caliper.
