ABS

Lou,

My brakes are fine, they have had a small upgrade of Brembo disks, braded lines, racing pads, etc.

The reason i am fitting ABS is for one reason only:- ABS stops the wheels from breaking grip under lock-up breaking. Since your tyres are the weakest point in a braking system ABS keeps the tyres at their highest point of adhesion, even when you try to turn a courner.

You seem not convimced at how great the system is. The only test is to drive a car on a wet day and just hit the brakes. Now do it in a car with no ABS, you soon see the reason for it.

The whole system only wieghs about 5Kg's so why not?

ABS

I've had ABS on a BMW and Prelude, I don't dispute it's benefits, sometimes.
In fact there's a dog near Tirau that owes it's life to the BM's brakes. It's
just that I haven't had ABS since then and haven't needed or missed it. I much
prefer the feel of well set-up MX5 brakes to the mushyness you sometimes get
with ABS. It's also significant that most racing classes don't use them and
those that do tend to need lot's of developement to get them to perform as
well as non-ABS. I do accept that road driving is very different to the track
though.
The great thing though, is that we all have our preferences. Otherwise we'd
all drive Corolla's.

Steve
have you had a look at an MX5 with ABS, i seem to remember your car has a
Turbo, i think you'll find that the large control unit sits
right near where your Turbo is mounted, ie: in the passenger side of the
engine bay, (the one I've seen did), so it may not be possible to fit, unless
it can be mounted/squeezed somewhere else?
