Damn confusing injectors!

Post by Mathew » Fri Jul 12, 2002 11:04 am

I asked the mechanic about disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU map and he claims it is unneccessary when changing injectors. He says that the injectors are just an output from the ECU and it will be flowing the standard rate of fuel to the injectors no matter what injectors are fitted. This kind of makes sense to me as with the 1800 injectors installed the ECU continued to supply fuel at the same rate as the 1600 injectors and because the injector was bigger it provided too much fuel. If the ECU was able to determine the different injector size and make adjustments how come the car was overfueling so badly?. A while back someone else suggested I reset the ECU in the hope that the car would run better, so I tried it (twice actually) and it made no difference.
It does appear that I need to raise the fuel pressure a bit more though. Thanks for confirming the numbers Lou. I must come and check out that water injection system of yours one day.

Hi Matthew,

I think you are right. I don't think the standard ECU stores are saves any
settings. It has fixed maps associated with the engine size it is used
with...
