I've been borrowing a '91 for a while - it has the same issue - very hard to
get into 2nd from the outset. I know the oil isn't low as we did a clutch
on it a little while ago and did the gearbox oil at the same time.

What we didn't use was a decent weight oil - just what we had around - so I
suspect that may be the case. Try for a better oil - the list has
recommended redline in the past, but I'm sure there are other synthetics
that are similar.

Check the shifter turret, should have about 90cc (I think) of nice clean
gearbox oil in it.

we drained an refilled this, with a clean but pretty basic grade oil. Made
no difference. Once again, I think the oil grade may make a difference &
we'll try this in a few more kms

Maybe the 2nd gear syncros in the box are getting worn as this will cause the above to happen.Ross.
