$10,000 for MX5?

I spent the last 3 weeks in Christchurch driving around in a mate's MX5 2000
model(yes I'm surprised he allowed me free rein!) but I reciprocate by
offering him my Beach pad complete with white sand and warm lagoon frontage as
chilling out haven every July/Aug when the "frozen toes bite"!,
So much so, I believ I have got the BUG! I am contemplating purchasing myself
one now, and trade the old 1999 Toyota Corolla in!!!
Would a Budget of NZD10,000 buy much or do I need to go higher if so how high?
Just want to know where to start, any helpful recommendations would be greatly
appreciated. Would be keen to hear if some one is upgrading to newer model
etc.
