Radio

Post by Phil Dyer » Thu Jan 31, 2002 12:16 pm

Just had a curious problem - factory radio/tape player wouldn't work - clock
worked and would eject tapes but not play or rewind/fast forward. Had a
fiddle with all the buttons and it wasn't until I got home and opened the
driver's door that suddenly it all began working again, and now it works
whether the door is open or shut.???!!
Anyone had a similar experience?

Phil
My other car is a Subaru Legacy with a factory radio/cassette/cd player
which is similar to the MX5 factory unit.
Last week I parked the car and radio was working fine.Came back, started
car and nothing.No radio,clock or cd.Thought
it may have been a fuse.So on the way home I drove over two lane markers
on the motorway and radio starts working,
clock shows time, aerial goes up.Maybe our cars were in the Twilight Zone
for a short time.SPOOKY

This is a common problem with these radio's related to humidity. After a
little warm-up they start operating again.

It can be completely fixed by fitting a small jumper wire between two
terminals of a plug on the back of the radio.

See http://www.miata.net/garage/audio.html for full details.

I did this fix over five years ago...

Fletch.
