In Japanese publications they quote engine power figures in "ps". In a mx5 book I have they have used taken "ps" as being the equivalent of "hp" (ie. a mx5 the japs quote as having 140ps, they have translated to 140hp). I seem to remember reading somewhere ages ago that they are not equal, but I can't remember where. It have a nifty little program that does all the calculations when changing between different units, but it doesn't have "ps". Does anyone know how to translate from "ps" to "hp" or "kw"??

I just happen to have the original Owner Handbook from my daughter's 28
year old Escort 1100 and it quotes the power in both PS (48) and HP (55),
so there's your conversion factor. Just to be sure the 1300 is quoted at 57
PS and 65 HP and the 1300GT at 72 PS and 82 HP. It also says that HP is an
S.A.E figure and PS is DIN. Can't remember what either S.A.E or DIN stand
for though.
