Today my drivers-side power window failed upon winding up - as the window
reached the top I heard a snapping sound and the window dropped an inch. A
moment later it dropped halfway down. The window is now free to rise or fall,
depending on the direction of gravity at the time.
So far I've got the window tied up, but have not made close inspection of the
damage (don't want to get that nasty black stuff everywhere until I have time to
do things thoroughly). Presumably the winder cable has broken, or the toggle
thingy at the end has come off.
I'm told that I can probably get a replacement cable made at a motorcycle
workshop (maybe $20), or pay Mazda quite a lot (maybe several hundred
dollars) for a cable which comes complete with motor & everything else (ie. not
sold separately)
Does anyone have any other pearls of wisdom for me, before I start undoing
things? I've looked at the articles on miata.net already.
thanks,
Karl.

check everything out before fitting it. I went to a spares place and paid half
the new price for the complete unit - $150 I think.

Karl,
The bit that broke on mine, cable assembly (same symptoms as yours), cost
just over $100 from Mazda. I let their service department install it, it
took a couple of hours labour.
