Can anyone recommend some reasonably priced ones for everyday driving and how often does one change them?

NGK bkr5e-11 (something like that) - ~$20 for 4 at
Repco. They can look it up and verify this for you -
just make sure the boxes are new ;)

Change every 30,000 km.

Have you thought of platinium plugs?... they are a little dearer but are
still sparking well after 20,000 kms on my machine and come with a
guarantee of 100,000 kms.

Derek.

I bought a set of NGKs from John Andrew Ford in Grey Lynn this week and they
cost a princely $12 (club discount 15%).

Guess I better join the club...

If anyone thinks choice of and maintenance of spark plugs is unimportant,
consider my experience with the cathode(?) falling off a spark plug while in
use. Clattering noise very expensive. Complete bottom end rebuild. Idiots
at Mazda Greenlane put the old fanbelt back on so a couple of weeks later
it disintegrated and with my eye glued to the horizon I didn't see the warning
light - overheated, complete top end rebuild. $6,000.

At least now, with a coincidental complete transmission rebuild and ditto exhaust, I have a 10 year old MX5 in brilliant mechanical condition!

$6000; did they use many gold plated parts, This seems way to much for a
head rebuild.Ross.

Bottom end + top end. I don't recall the exact amount, might have been less.

Local Auto wreckers are almost giving away seconhand engines as they never need replacing.
If you blow an engine, get a secondhand one and spnd the $6,000 on the holiday you
probably need after the experience.
