wider wheels (was spacers)

I have a set of 15x6.5 wheels, but with a 29mm offset (says ET29) - I'm not worried either way in the looks/handling depts, but do you guys know:

- are they legal?

- if not, would machining a few mm off the mounting face help?

I know about the wheel bearing, suspension geometry, shock ratio, wider track, roll-centre arguments - so no need for a brow-beating there

They're legal, but the offset is too little. Dare I say it, you may need to
use spacers to take them out to 38 - 40 mm offset.

I thought the offset was the amount that the mounting flange is outboard of
the wheel centreline. If not, my humblest apologies for misleading anyone. No
Xmas pressie's for me.

it's tricky innit ? I have to remember than lower numbers = wheels that stick out more. Its the dogs bollocks

I dunno, maybe it's too close to the weekend, but the text says greater
positive offset moves the tyre in. The diagram seems to show greater offset
moving the tyre out. Which also confirms that lower offset wheels need spacers
to correct them, right or wrong? My brain hurts now.
