Part 2 Wheel Alignment

Post by Mike Donovan » Sat Oct 26, 2002 7:14 pm

Also wondering does anyone know of any place in Auckland that KNOWS MX5's
Wheel Alignment?
I just had a few clunking noises on the way home while braking then changing
from forward to reverse and vice-versa.

Looking at my front wheels the left looks much as it did before the alignment
(when it ran really well) i.e. the tyre/wheel is fairly centrally located in
the wheel arch. When I look at the right hand tyre though it's obvious that it
is much closer to the drivers door side of its arch than it is to the front of
the car. That could be correct I guess, but the sheet the guy gave me nowhere
indicates that he had to adjust the fronts very much at all??
As usual any tips appreciated.
Thanks Mike

Part 2 Wheel Alignment

Re: Part 2 Wheel AlignmentThanks Ken I'll check it out next week. MX-5's seem
such simple little cars it amazes me how hard it seems to be to find someone
around this big city (auckland) who knows what they are doing with them.

Thanks again.

Re: Part 2 Wheel AlignmentPete at Marshall Tyres N/Mkt is highly recommended.
He's set mine up just right. He'll actually align it to suit your driving
style.

Part 2 Wheel Alignment

Re: Part 2 Wheel AlignmentThanks for all the advise everyone.
I originally took the car to Lincoln Tyres. By Sunday the clunk had got worse
under brakes and a couple of times I thought the car kind of drifted slightly
off line when coasting to a stop at lights.

On Sunday P.M. I jacked it up and found on both front forward "snail" type
adjuster cams the bolts were really loose. So I just tightened them up as best
as possible, but that meant that I lost whatever alignment was left as by
accident I disturbed the loose snail cams. I drove this morning slowly into
Pits in town( as recommended by Ken..Thanks Ken) and they sorted it for me.
On the way into town I had to have the steering wheel cranked at about 20 to
30 degrees off horizontal to keep the car going in a straight line!! Oh yeah
the guy at Pits says the Eunos 100 specs that Lincoln Tyres had used to set it
up to is O.K. they are apparently the same. He also recommended I shout myself
a new set of rear tyres and get rid of the "Kelly" tyres which were fitted to
the rear since I got the car...I never knew they were a Dunlop Budget
special. Diabolical in any moisture!
Thanks everyone again for the advise and tips.
