most often around 4 - 5000rpm. It has been happening for a while, but having
just got my exhaust changed to a more enjoyable timbre, it is much more
noticeable and beginning to disrupt my listening pleasure.
I have an aftermarket header (unknown brand - fitted in Japan) and a cone
type free flow air filter (which currently sits above the manifold but plans
are afoot to change this) but otherwise the engine is stock.
Has anyone else experienced backfiring or got any suggestions (other than
changing gear at 7200rpm

Also, for those interested, I had my muffler replaced a few months ago in
order to do the spare-wheel-under-car conversion. This resulted in a nasty
LOUD buzz from 5000 rpm upwards. After visiting 4 different Pit Stops and
receiving 4 different answers, I was beginning to think the science of
exhausts was back there with druids and witchcraft. I visited Wolf Mufflers
in Mt Eden following someone elses recommendation on this list. The guy
there explained the problem and recommended changing the muffler to a
straight through muffler and replacing the cat with a resonator (in
fairness, Glen Innes Pit Stop did get the same answer as Wolf, but didn't
explain why and were an extra $50). Result is slightly louder exhaust at low
revs but much nicer sounding.
