I have the 'thumper' units fitted in my seats but the MSSS has been replaced
by an aftermarket CD stereo. Does anyone know if this can be connected to the
thumper units to give the bass 'thump' in the back? Any thoughts appreciated.
Or otherwise perhaps someone has a MSSS they would like to sell, could email
me directly at p.mca@xtra.co.nz
Thanks.

they sure can, my car has them and were connected to my upgraded stereo, if
you're in Auckland call into Driving Sound in Kyberpass, Newmarket. and see
Lance he has done the connection to a couple of club members cars and is
likely to do it at your house if you live around the same area, mention you're
a MX5 club member.

"Thumpers" are bass transducers in the lumbar region of the seat backs.
They do not transmit sound, but vibrate in frequency with the bass signals
from the stereo. They are the "sensory" part of "Mazda sensory surround
stereo" (MSSS). I presume since you have one of these in your S-special
Nigel you should have thumpers in your seats, unless they have been
disconnected. I have no idea what they feel like when going! The MSSS is
covered very well on miata.net, the link is
http://www.miata.net/garage/msss.html
Also for Brent and Rosslyn, who report that their MSSS has the well known
'skipping' problem with the CD unit, there is a fix described at
http://www.miata.net/garage/msss_fix.html
