Definitely a good from far but far from good paint job. You especially would not like to see it up close.

I originally had a polished bonnet about 2 years ago, but at the time I decided I didn't like it and painted it red again.
Anyway, after now stripping all the paint back and sanding for hours and hours again, I am stoked with the look. Makes my vent look more suited I reckon.

 Damn that thing looks tough, I wouldn't worry too much about the paint finish, after all its made to work not look pretty. But it definitely looks good.

I'd like to do something similar, have an MX5 dedicated to track work/drifting so you don't have to worry about sacrificing the whole comfort/perfomance.

Gave the car a little pre-drift day love today.

Image

Gave her an oil change, and a new set of spark plugs,

went over suspension/steering etc, checking nothing was loose etc. looks all good.

just want to check/replace my brake pads tomorrow, then she'll be ready for Taupo on sunday

Finally got a chance to get on here to update.

Took car to taupo on 14th april.

Image

Got everything unpacked and ready. Took down 6 brand new tires.

Half way down there i realised i had left my Gopro camera on the bench at home, so unfortunately i have no videos this time :(

Anyway, got out onto the track, car felt real good, got back into the swing of things pretty quickly.
Image
Image

15-20 mins later, checkered flag came up, came back into pits, checked my tires and they were pretty much completely gone. could just see canvas on the inner edge, and the tread was starting to delaminate.

realised it was going to be a short day :(

Second session was much like the first, everything felt good, was starting to push a bit harder.

Third session I came in early, thought the session was over, but it hadnt. But as i was entering the pits i seen a little smoke coming from under the engine bay so it was a good thing i came in.

smoke was coming off my exhaust manifold. my breather hose off the exhaust side of the cam cover had come off, and oil had dripped onto the exhaust manifold.
Gave it a quick clean and stuck it back on. easy fix.

4th session i went out on the tires left from the 3rd session, good again, gutted i have no footage to show.

5th session i put back on the tires from my second session, they were pretty much gone but were all i had so on they went.
was taking a mates mate for a ride, a young girl, had never been in a drift car before.
thought i would try to give her something to remember. definately did that.haha.
Tried to enter the section with a big feint entry as i had been earlier, kicked the clutch one way, then switched back and got on the handbrake. but i was trying to do it at the same speed as i was with good tires. as soon as i got on the handbrake i knew i was going way to fast for the tires, the handbrake didnt scrub any speed off.
tried to straighten up and slow down. ended up going head first into a tire wall.
fortunately managed to scrub off most of my speed.
Image
bumper took all the impact really, bonnet has a slight dip in the middle, left guard has a big dent i will try pop out. looking at the scuff marks i was in the tires up to the bonnet/headlights.
no damage to the headlight covers or front frame parts. just my front ducting was a bit beat up but it straightened out ok,

paint has started cracking off the bumper real bad. bit gutted about that, but the bumper was a bit average in the first place, and i have got some brown left over. so am now hunting for a cheap front bumper. anyone?

checked the car quickly, then did a few more laps in that session.

Next session put on some more of the nearly gone tires.
only lasted a few laps, then the right rear gave way in a big way.

Image

tread came completely off, taking my rear bumper with it. leaving sticky rubber crap all over the guard.
the tread chipped a few bits of paint, but ill get a small brush and sort these out easy.
Rear bumper was still sitting on the side of the track when i took this,

anyway. was a good day. pretty hard on the car but thats just part of it I suppose.
Will leave you with my favourite pic from the day.

You too man, We'll have to get all these MX's together for a slide sometime.

Hey, Cheers for that diff man, am getting onto locking that up asap.

My wheels are sportmaxx at 15x8 0p, and dtm banzai at 15x8 25p with a 25mm spacer, so all 15x8 0p really.

tires are 195/45 on the front, 195/50 rear.
Suspension is just BC coilovers, not sure of height at the mo. have raised it to the point where it drives good and just left it at that.

Definately needs to happen, be good to have a whole bunch of us sliding round together.

Last weekend I popped up to hamptons and Brett (BRM) the legend gave me his old 1.8 open diff.

I made up a 10mm plate to sit between the gears, and got one of the fitters at work to crank the MIG up and lay some metal in there.

Image

just need to give it a clean up, then get motivated to crawl under my car and pull things out.

Should have filled it with blu tack and tin foil. Oh wait that RC Cars

Should be interesting as the torsen robs power and goes real unstable in the wet when you let off. Let us know how it goes as Ive been contemplating a new diff.

Woop, 3 monthly update time, haha.

Not alot has happened lately, been struggling with spare time, motivation, and mostly lack of funds.

Pulled diff out, dismantled, re-assembled with locked diff centre.

Re-assembled and put back in the car yesterday.

I filled it with some diff oil, started the car up, and let it idle away in 6th for 5 mins to give it a run in.
Image

I then drained the diff oil out and put in some fresh stuff.
I had given the diff a good clean out, but wanted to flush some oil through it for piece of mind after the welding etc, it was only $12 worth of oil and it came out clean as,

This is my new best friend
Image
has come in handy so many times, is ideal for diff/gearboxes.

So tomorrow the car goes back on the ground, and will go for a quick drive up the road to check all is good.

Next mission is to find the funds for some more tyres, and then get out and use the damn thing again.

Awesome where did you get this from? I've got a shitspec budget one that kind of works.

Keen to see your car drifting, let us know on here if you go to Hampton or Pukekohe. I'd like to see it in action.
