New Clutch

Post by Mr. Shine » Tue Feb 28, 2012 9:59 pm

Hey guys, new lightweight flywheel so a new clutch while I'm at it. Just wondering if anyone is able to point me in the right direction for a sharp price on a replacement item? Not looking at more power so the standard clutch will do me fine, or if possible a better item for the same price ;)

Cheers!

Do you have any preference of clutch manufacturer i personally like fidanza and you can never go wrong with a Heavy Duty ACT

There are a few places with clutches on sale at the moment but they require shipping for bang for buck Exedy clutches would be the way to go because alot of shops in NZ sell them

So far as I know, yeah. I'm a rather large fan of Autoclutch clutches as well. Some people bag them, but out of all the people I know that run them (including myself now), they seem to hold up to the most abuse.

I heard my name. Must be important.

I prefer to sell Exedy clutches, partially because I can give you a free flywheel skim, but mostly because they are the best quality clutches on the market. That being said, I can also get Autoclutch or Clutch Industries kits for those that want them.

Also, I am currently setting up a cash account for the MX5forum guys to use at any Autostop branch, about 30% off retail prices. I will let everyone know when it is all up and running.

The standard Exedy clutch should be fine for most applications. I would tend to avoid the Aussie Exedys (generally the purple ones). To get extra pressure on the clutch they add extra springs to the pressure plate which just defeats the purpose of your nice new lightweight flywheel.

I've got a TODA flywheel with Standard OEM clutch kit i got off Trade me,
Works mint,It's just a standard kit.
Might not last long if i actually get around to doing any fun days on a track,But good enough for road usage for now

Sorry Euen, but that is a common misconception regards the HD Exedy clutches.

There is no difference between the pink covers (Australian) and the chrome covers (Japanese) Both come out of the same production line, the Aussies just powdercoat theirs pink as a bit of a marketing ploy.

However, I can't comment on the actual construction of them, in regards to adding springs for extra pressure, as I am not in posession of all the facts.

Interesting. I was told about it by the Exedy distributor on Wairau Rd.

Make sure who ever you get to machine it knows what they are doing,Chrome Moly is a arse to machine.
When i had mine done i dropped it into a very reputable machine shop here in CH CH as no clutch specialist would touch it,He got it done....but as i have found out a couple of years later ,He sent it out himself to the Cyl Head specialist we use thru work !!,only $60.00 to get done,He stuffed 2 lathe thingys they use in the process,Got it down to 3.5kg :) .
Just sold one thru work attached to a 100,000km motor from Japan to a good custy,He had a job getting someone to machine it as well,Ended using the same guy i did without knowing it.
He wasn't real keen to do another,But did it,apparently it had a slight warp,
My custy got a heavy duty button clutch kit ,Got told to use the Autoclutch setup or standard,Using standard setup for now.

Autoclutch machined mine, though he didn't have a lot to say about lightweight flywheels ("Off the shelf Japanese made rubbish" I believe was his description).

Dunno about Jap made rubbish,More believe Chinese made rubbish.
Jap stuff is always high end ,Especially TODA stuff,You won't get much better quality.
I do see the ones listed on TM and wonder about them,Like the headers and turbo manifolds

I just look at those headers, flywheels and turbo manifolds on TM the same way they are all crap and will break or not fit right

Occasionally something like that TODA flywheel pops up but dont trust the rest of it
