98 octane petrol
Just trying out the new forum. In truth this is a re-post of a request I made to the email list.
Can anyone tell me which BP stations in Auckland offer 98 octane petrol. Or do they all and I am just not looking in the right place in the forecourt?
Thanks

check out:

for 98 octane locations.
By the way, up until 2 weeks ago I used 91 exclusively. I got 8.5l per 100km on 91 octane, which I though was pretty good. Just finished my first tank of 98. Got a return of 9.5l per 100km. Indeed the performance was better, though the car wasn't driven any differently (Auckland peak traffic on the North Western then out to Titirangi - no chance driving any differently). Filled it up again with 98 octane, see how the next tank goes...
It only costs a few dollars more to fill which isn't an issue at all, and the smoother running is worth every cent.

As far as I understand.... all the stations have only two tanks... or at least, only sell two grades of fuel.... they all have 91, and the other grade is either 96 or 98 depending on which particular station you're at...
The BP on the corner of GT North Rd and Richardson Rd in Mt Albert has 98.
So does the one on the round-a-bout corner of portage Rd/Clark st/Wolverton in New Lynn.
BP calls it 'Ultimate' and if you see that under the big gold star/flower on thier price-board they have it (I think?). I've noticed if they do have Ultimate, they only show the price of 91 on the big sign
I beleive they have a lising of stations where its available on thier website?
As mentioned above, Mobil operates the same 2 products at any given station scheme... 91 and one of the others.... they call them Synergy 1000, 6000, and 8000 (for 91, 96 and 98 octane)
We dont appear to have Shell Optimax available despite it being the most well marketed 98 across the ditch in Aussie?
Fletch.

98 octane petrol
Have never seen 'envron' anywhere. All BP stations that have the 98 octane
petrol have an 'Ultimate" sign on there main roadside signage as far as I
know. There is no 96 petrol now either; it is 95. Didn't drop the price
though when they quietly brought it in almost a year ago.

Yeah... I edited that... it was a brain-fart... Envron was a BP motor-oil re-refined from used and recycled oil... it was available in the '90's but I'm not sure if they have it any more? They certainly dont advertise it any more...

I run exclusively on BP 98 now...
I have also run BP 98 with a bottle of Octane booster from a shop in Penrose that used to sell 'NOS' brand Octane boosters ($40 for a bottle to be put into a full tank) it claimed an increase from 91 to 105.
I definately felt a difference from the butt dyno and was able to launch without wheelspin only to have the tires squeal from changing from 1st to 2nd and lose traction with LSD!
If only I had stocked up then

most sites have four tanks and depending on useage usually have two 91 and one each for Diesel (ado) and high octane which is 95 or 98.
the BP 98 sites have Lime green "ultimate" signage on the main price sign and they also have light blue nozzles with "speed handles" on them so you can feel like a race car pit man when you fill.
Mobil 98 have a pinky purple nozzle and is called 8000.
most new sites have two 50,000 liter tanks that are split up into compartments based on projected sales for any grade.

98 Octane
Used 98 for the first time this week, indications so far with my normal city/motorway driving will see around 80-100kms more per tank. My 90 NA has 222k on the clock and seems a little smoother with some improvement in acceleration on this fuel. Will be doing some longer distance travel this weekend Wellington/Turangi/Taumarunui. Have found the site showing where ultimate is available very useful.

Yes, we do repairs to the pumps and computors/eftpos systems and hoses, nozzles. Im an electrician so obviously do mostly electric/electronic faults....
The oil companies tolerances are TIGHTER than what the trades and measurment standards are.
lots of people think that the oil companies get us to calibrate in thier favour but its absolutly false and this is why........
If a site has more fuel in its storage tanks than the sales throughput on the till then they instantly think that there may be a hole in the tank that is letting water IN..... this isnt good. and triggers an instant enviromental investigation..this costs money so the stock numbers need to be spot on.
Most oil companies work on about a 5% loss in product due to evaporation of fuel from the storage tank.
lets face it they make enough money as it is without needing to resort to(illegal) calibration errors....
