Seats (bucket)

Post by DBM58 » Sat May 19, 2007 7:56 am

Seats have been the subject of several posts recently, specifically, cleaning and updating. All solutions involve spending money. I saw a set of bucket seats for sale on Trade Me this morning.

Mat...those trade me seats may well be a bit lighter. I weighed my NA seat (complete with factory mounts) this morning. It is 15kgs. My race seat on its own is 7.7kg plus a couple of kilos for the mounts...if that helps?

Hmm, Might take a further look into getting some race seats then.
It's all about adding lightness :D

Seats (bucket)

if you haven't seen it already ...

http://www.flyinmiata.com/tech/seats.asp

Unless you're a seriously skinny dude any bucket seat that fits in the car, probably won't fit you! My waist is ~31":P and I can only just slot into the Cobra bucket seats (6ish kgs) ... and it's not the easiest to get out of either! So maybe something with bolsters, but not an actual bucket type...

Hehe, should be perfect for me, I'm about a 26" waist lol, I weigh about 50kg, and people wonder why my car is so fast :D

I'd kill for some seats with side support.

I've been looking into getting some seats, and the only bit of advice I've had so far is to get reclining one's as they are much easier to get in and out of and you don't have to be skinny as they don't have the deep hip part.

Has anyone fitted aftermarket seats??? And where from etc etc. Nina has, I think they were the K204 on this page
http://www.seatwarehouse.co.nz/car.html

They were a super tight fit and touch on the outsides, but look great, and I've been told feel great too.

Most of the one's on the flyin Miata page are big bucks, but well done JIF for the link, very helpful as I can work out sizes from those :D

Seats (bucket)

Post by Miatamad » Tue May 22, 2007 10:16 am

The Racepro seats (see racepro.co.nz) can fit fairly easily - although
they are iro $5-600 per seat. Generally they are better quality than
most of the trademe offerings.

They fit snugly, but OK and you can use the mounting brackets onto (with
a little adjustment) to the standard rails that are on your standard
seat giving you forward / back movement.

They are harder to get in and out of, but I'm a fairly chunky guy (leave
it !!!), and I can do so with the racepro's without too much issue.

Remember that race seats never recline - may (or not) be an issue for
you depending on what you are looking to do with the car.

Ill do a photo step by step for you all.

I did a write-up with photos of installing my aftermarket seats here:
http://www.mx5forum.co.nz/viewtopic.php?t=3087

They are a tight fit, but I love'em :D
