sorry I got the message via email, that looks like a repaint (and a bad one at that, looking at the front bumper compared to the rest of the car) despite what the owner goes on to say.... evolution orage mica maybe? introduced 98'ish or maybe Sunflower yellow, rareish from what I have read, but certainly not one of four rare.... ahhh well will follow the auction out of interest $9995 seems pretty steep!

Well - best way to find out is to ask - I emailed the seller the following:
Sorry just curious (being a huge MX5 fan) - what do you mean only 4 made? Are you referring to a special edition model - if so what one? To be open and honest, I'm not looking to buy it - it is just that a lot of the MX5 club members are watching this on the forum. If it is a very exclusive model and you can provide the information - you may well have the chance to get a very keen buyer - and at least you will know that the car is going to an enthusiast. Thanks Chris
Ill let you know what they come back with.
And if before anyone jumps on me - I emailed them - I have not posted a question in their auction to embarrass them.
::edited to fix spelling::

LOL, you beat me to it Miatamad. Be interesting to see what the reply is.
I can't recall having seen this car here in Tga before, and even tho they kind of explain that the car is NOT 2 tone in the ad... certainly looks like the bumper's been re-sprayed to me too (Hey! Maybe the bumper's original and the car's re-sprayed?

)
And I agree, nearly 10 grand with 130 000 on the clock is pricey even if it is a genuine 91 LE.
I'm semi interested in the car, but not at that price (And the wheels will have to go... eeek!)

I notice that it does appear to have the wooden (Nardi ?) steering wheel that the Sunburst yellow cars were issued with.

Now - I have been nerdy and googling.
There is a Sunburst Yellow J-Limited (a run of 800 in Japan) that looks almost exactly the same color (see link:
http://www.mx5ownersclub.co.za/pages/22)
So - I am only assume that the seller has verified that the other 796 have been written off.

Actually, that photograph is an older photograph of the car that now sits in my garage. It no longer has the fancy rims - they are on Matt Avery's red NA in Hamilton, as are the MazdaSpeed seats, and the personalised plate. We also exchanged style bars. The yellow tonneau cover is also still with Matt.

The yellow mx belongs to either one of the owners, or someone who works at The Weekend Sun. They have had it advertised for sale recently with a photo in that paper, and about 6-8 months ago they were enquiring about a trimmer to fit a new top for them. As far as I know they are not club members, although we do have one yellow one over here. Give them a call if you want to know about it, theres a number on the trademe site.

well - the owner never emailed me back - but I see the claim that there were only 4 in NZ has been dropped from the listing.

Must be the "New upmarket stereo with big speakers in back" that makes it so expensive. Athough why somebody would waste money on a non-essential, just to to sell a car is beyond me.
FWIW I do know where ther's a '94 yellow version for sale. I hope to see it this weekend.
